Travel Day of Action – One Voice and a Clear Message for The Government
Hundreds of our Travel Industry friends and colleagues have gathered yesterday (23 June 2021) at College Green, Westminster to get behind the Travel Day of Action, in response to the current Government restrictions.
This has proved once again that the Travel sector has a strong voice and it will stand united to make a difference. The day of action brought together airline pilots and cabin crew, big name tour operators, small travel agencies, travel business owners and Travel Industry Associations, all in one place to stand behind the initiative and make their voices heard.
The restrictions that are currently in place have damaged the whole Travel Industry and with not many countries currently on the green list, very little support and lack of implementation of the traffic light system, the impact will be devasting on travel businesses.
With ABTA estimating that about 195,000 jobs are at risk or have been lost during the pandemic, the sector calls on immediate action from Government on the following points:
- Expansion on the green list for quarantine-free travel
- Reduced testing and quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated people entering the UK
- More financial support for the sector
Travel plays such an important role in everybody’s life, it’s a sector that is filled with passionate people whose livelihoods are now at stake and it’s safe to say that the Travel Industry hasn’t been supported enough during this past year and a half. The pandemic has brought so many travel businesses down to their knees as Government has failed to deliver a restart of travel.
